I WASN’T SURE IF I SHOULD PUBLISH THE POEMS FROM CATHERINE’S CATEGORY “UNFINISHED SYMPHONY”.
After all, why would anyone be interested in reading an unfinished poem? But what she had in those “unfinished symphonies” was too good not to share.
Catherine and Ralph frequently drove over to Vicksburg to drive around and “check on” her hometown. The Vicksburg National Military Park was a favorite destination, and Fort Nogales was a favorite in the Park, as the view from the top was, and still is, amazing. The Mississippi River winds across the landscape below and the flat lands of Louisiana stretch out forever.
One Sunday, they blew bubbles off the top of Fort Nogales, also called “Fort Hill” by locals. The poem about their adventure is one that Catherine included in her self-made book:
In the book are many poems that she wrote, mostly during the 1990s, inspired by life events or whatever she happened to be doing at the moment. They’re divided into categories; Whimsy, Canticles of Praise, Family, Nature, and Unfinished Symphony.
As you know, I’m committed to publishing the materials that my mother, Catherine Shumaker Brinson wrote, researched, and gathered that relate to our genealogy.
Her entire book, Original Writings by Catherine Shumaker Brinson, is now available on Amazon! You can read it on Kindle, or have your very own print copy for your and your family’s enjoyment and for posterity. Here are the links:
I’ll also be publishing all her other genealogy research so that you can have it for your own family records.
So if you’re not already signed up for my Genealogy list, be sure and do that now! Here’s the link: https://www.subscribepage.com/g0c4a7
Here is “BUBBLES”, a poem in Catherine’s book, from the Unfinished Symphony category.
I’d like to blow my bubbles from a hill called Nogales.
I’d like to blow my bubbles from the Spanish Pyrenees.
I’d like to blow my bubbles anywhere I please.
I’d like to blow my bubbles as big as big can be.
I’d like to blow a bubble with a bubble underneath.
I’d like to blow that bubble surrounding you and me.
I’d like to ride my bubble up into the air so high.
I’d like to ride my bubble through the clear blue sky.
But a bubble might burst up in the air so high.
But a bubble might not last to
